Shopify · Custom ERP · Premium apparel retail

Bidirectional Shopify–ERP integration for international retail.

The project

Project context

The project supported the e-commerce operations of an international premium apparel brand, with a catalogue spanning shirts, custom-made garments, knitwear, jackets, and accessories across multiple markets.

Shopify managed the customer-facing commerce channel, while a custom-built ERP supported internal operations. Products, inventory, and order progress had to move across both systems without losing identity, relationships, or operational state.

Communication was bidirectional. Depending on the data and process stage, updates generated in Shopify had to reach the ERP, while changes originating in the ERP had to be reflected in the store. Shopify webhooks provided the triggers for reacting to relevant platform events.

We designed and developed a custom app with a mapping layer built around the real data models of both systems. This was not a standard connector: the integration coordinated products, inventory, orders, shipping, and returns across one retail workflow.

Five operational domains synchronised bidirectionally: products, inventory, orders, shipping, and returns.
Our role
Design and development of the Shopify app, webhooks, data mapping, and bidirectional ERP workflows.

Delivered solutions

Distinct solutions for concrete needs.

Each solution addresses a specific technical or operational constraint. Together, they show how we contribute through custom development, integrations, migrations, replatforming, or engineering capacity embedded in the team.

Custom app for bidirectional synchronisation

Engineering challenge

Shopify and the ERP used different models, fields, and identities, while both participated in the operational lifecycle. The challenge was keeping products, inventory, orders, shipping, and returns consistent when updates could originate in either platform and had to reach the other.

Delivered solution

We developed a Shopify app with a dedicated mapper that translated fields, identifiers, and states between both systems. Shopify webhooks captured relevant events and triggered the flow towards the ERP; the app also received updates from the ERP and applied them to Shopify through its APIs. The same integration coordinated products, inventory, orders, shipping, and returns.

Operational value

Shopify and the ERP could operate as coordinated parts of the same retail process. Operational updates travelled in both directions through logic tailored to the client’s data and rules, avoiding separate management of the two systems.
