Custom commerce systems for UCX’s multichannel platform.

The project

Project context

UCX LLC is a Chicago technology company whose SaaS platform brings channel sales, partners, products, inventory, orders, pricing, and commissions into one operating environment.

We worked within the UCX ecosystem, built with Java Spring Boot, Angular, PostgreSQL, and a RabbitMQ-based event-driven architecture.

Our assignment focused on three concrete operational needs: connecting Shopify stores to the platform, calculating tax correctly by location, and coordinating rates, order distribution, and fulfilment across multiple warehouses.

Each solution had its own objective and workflow, while all three had to integrate with UCX’s existing services and data models. They are therefore presented as separate workstreams within the same project.

Bidirectional Shopify and UCX integration

Engineering challenge

Merchants needed to connect one or more Shopify stores to UCX and keep products, stock levels, and orders aligned across platforms with different models and identifiers.

Delivered solution

We developed the Shopify integration tool and the mapping layer required to synchronise data between UCX and connected stores. The flow coordinated products, inventory, and orders in both directions through the platform APIs.

Operational value

UCX could include Shopify stores within its channel management workflow, consolidating commerce data and availability instead of managing channels as isolated systems.

Location-based tax calculation with Avalara AvaTax

Engineering challenge

Sales processed through UCX required accurate tax calculation based on location and the rates applicable to the transaction address.

Delivered solution

We developed the Avalara AvaTax integration and placed tax calculation within the platform’s commerce flow, translating transaction data into the format required by the service.

Operational value

UCX could automatically obtain location-specific tax calculations during the sales process without maintaining rate variations internally.

Custom shipping and multi-warehouse fulfilment engine

Engineering challenge

The platform had to calculate live shipping rates and decide how to distribute order items across available warehouses while keeping fulfilment coordinated.

Delivered solution

We developed a shipping engine that calculated available rates and applied order-distribution logic across warehouses and fulfilment requirements.

Operational value

The commerce flow could present current rates and turn a customer order into fulfilment instructions distributed across the appropriate operating locations.
